We currently have  vacancies for experienced Naval Architects based at Barrow in Furness to assist our present team. The successful candidate will have skills in the following areas for ships and submarines:

  • Production of arrangement designs and modifications, working to relevant IMCO and National Rules and Regulations.
  • Production of structural designs and modifications, to relevant Class Rules and Regulations.
  • Review of Rules and Regulations affecting ship structures, safety and fire protection.
  • Modelling ships hulls, analysis and production of stability data and compilation of Stability Books.
  • Preparation of feasibility studies.
  • Reviewing ship compliance with regulations as required.
  • Carry out ship structural survey work as required.
  • Preparation of specifications for new buildings and/or conversions.
  • Analysis of ship dynamics and effect on heavy loads.
  • Checking lashing proposals as required.
  • Initial appraisal of Marine Structures.

In addition to naval architectural work on ships and submersibles a general background and interest in all aspects of engineering will be useful. As a member of a small project team the successful candidate may become involved in a wide variety of engineering projects including design, analysis or project management of

  • Pressure vessels,
  • Marine handling systems,
  • Shipboard systems,
  • Remotely operated Subsea equipment and systems
  • As well as all forms of marine structures and hardware.

The successful candidates will have a good knowledge of the following:

  • AutoCAD drawing.
  • Stability and Damage software – preferably Tribon systems.
  • Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, etc.

Useful additional knowledge will include:

  • An understanding of publishing software.
  • Knowledge of Inventor software.

The work pattern in the department is varied being from minor modifications on existing vessels through to being part of a full design team on a new build. This work includes visits to vessels, repair yards, shipyards and suppliers of equipment as well as providing support for other divisions within the group.
